Hey all,
As I said before I was just in COLORADO! It was incredible! Although my snowboarding skills are far, far from it :P
Friday morning Rick and Cindy Hayden from the downtown Rotary club picked Perle and I up before heading out from San Antonio. We arrived in Mt. Crested Butte late afternoon a little bit tired but really, really excited! Crested Butte is a gorgeous area! I’ve never seen so much snow in my whole life (albeit, I haven’t seen very much snow at all :P) and it glitters in the morning sun xD.
The next day we caught the shuttle to the base of the mountain hired our gear and got our lift tickets. Darryl, the man whose we were staying with is really close to most of the people who work on the mountain, shop owners, lift operators and ski instructors as his son Gavin also works on the mountain and Darryl is an avid skier. So we received a few discounts and other perks. That day I spent doing a snowboarding class, Perle already knew how to snowboard and everyone else skied so I was separated from the group that day. Although, Darryl knew the instructor who was good friends with Gavin, so I got some extra attention also because I was the only girl within the group of four in the lesson. This was good because a) I suuuuck at snowboarding and b) he was quite cute :D
The next day I went on the mountain with Perle, Darryl and Cindy (not Rick, funny story). I was not having fun at all, I really didn’t have the hang of the whole snowboarding thing. So I chilled out on the top of the mountain with Darryl and Gavin (who we met up there because he was working nearby) for a while to calm down and pump myself up again. On the second go I thought I was getting the hang of it, that was until they dragged me onto some medium level hills... Ouch ouch ouch, disaster.... By the end of the day I was dead! Everything huuuurt and I was exhausted from dragging the board around and trying to get up all the time :P
The good news is though, that I didn’t break (or tear) anything! Which I think is pretty successful :P and everyone assures me that I did well to survive going down medium hills on my second day (I think it’s a cop-out :P). Needless to say, after that I was sooo sore! I still have whiplash on my neck and a sore butt. Well, I haven’t made my mind up about snowboarding, I’m hoping if I get another chance to try it I’ll be better. Even though I wasn’t that successful a snowboarder I did get a chance to go out and take some photos which I’ve uploaded to my flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/michelleshaul/collections/72157612502419824/
So it was straight back to school today :( I was so glad to have 3 day off of it though! I’m doing more stuff again this weekend, maybe going fishing Friday afternoon, a wedding on Saturday and going into San Antonio to meet up with the other exchange students :D
